Who we are.
The Director’s Council is an energetic group of Modern members who share a passion for learning about contemporary art and who support the Modern with acquisitions for the permanent collection.
What we do.
The Director’s Council, formed in 1985, enjoys an exclusive event schedule. Council events include insightful discussions with Museum curators and enlightening introductions to artists. All events are private and free of admission charges. At the end of each season, Council members vote to purchase a work of art for the Modern’s permanent collection.
Why you should join.
Director’s Council members enjoy a full program of private education and social events, and have the opportunity to be a part of the latest developments in the local, national, and international art scenes. Council members receive full membership benefits at the Family/Associate level.
Annual Membership Dues – $600
Annual membership benefits include:
- Privilege to vote on an acquisition for the Modern’s permanent collection
- First look at FOCUS exhibitions and the opportunity to meet the artists for an informal talk in the galleries, followed by a reception and dinner in Café Modern
- Reciprocal general admission to more than 700 arts, cultural, and historical institutions, including botanical gardens, children’s museums, and science and technology centers across North America
- Complimentary invitation for two to all Members’ Preview Parties
- Unlimited free admission for all children and grandchildren under 18 years old
- Invitations to family events and the Annual Children’s Party
- Two complimentary admission guest passes to share with family and friends per year
- Unlimited free admission for two adults
- Free subscription to member mailings, including our calendar of events and members' magazine
- Priority enrollment and discounts for all art classes at the Modern
- 10% discount at Café Modern
- 20% discount on all regularly priced items in the Modern Shop and the Modern Shop Online
- Special members-only promotions and events at the Modern Shop and Café Modern
- Discounted tickets to Modern film and music events
- Two complimentary tickets to Modern ’til Midnight
- Invitation to attend members-only Art 101 classes
