Become a Modern Docent
If you love learning, are interested in building your relationship with contemporary art, and would like to talk about it with others, consider becoming a Modern docent.
Our docent program is a valuable contribution to the Fort Worth community and beyond, helping the Museum to meet the diverse needs and interests of its visitors. Volunteering as a Modern docent requires a high degree of motivation, as well as dedication to art, ideas, and open dialogue. A minimum commitment of two years is required.
Once accepted into the class, docents-in-training undergo extensive, rigorous preparation to achieve the highest standards of knowledge and presentation. This training consists of a seven-month required course concentrating on the history of art as it applies to the Modern’s collection, as well as on touring techniques and research methods. Training classes are held as needed. Upon graduation into the docent program, mandatory ongoing training continues throughout the year.
Benefits of being a Modern docent include an in-depth training program, many opportunities for continued education, a complimentary Museum membership, invitations to special events, early notification of program offerings, and more.

Additional language skills are always welcome, and we have a special need for docents fluent in Spanish and American Sign Language. No prior art history background or work experience is required to serve as a Modern docent; however, those wishing to volunteer in the program should be comfortable conversing with the public on an array of contemporary issues. Interested applicants are strongly encouraged to follow docent-led tours before applying.
