Q&A following
Join us for a gallery talk with artists Erick and Elliot Jiménez discussing their background and their artwork Blue Chapel (Rejection, Acceptance, Advocacy, Interdependence), featured in the Modern’s special exhibition Surrealism and Us: Caribbean and African Diasporic Artists since 1940 on view through July 28. The talk will be moderated by Curator María Elena Ortiz.
Known for their photographic works that merge stylistic visuals with mysticism, Elliot and Erick Jiménez, twin brothers, grew up in a Cuban household suffused with Afro-Caribbean spirituality and stories. In their work, the artists draw upon these religious forms to create richly hued portraits that straddle the line between the real and the dream-like.
Registration is not required. Attendance is free with museum admission.
