“The film's strength begins with a deftly crafted script that does what many had believed was impossible: converting a book to film without losing anything in translation.” —Jeff Strickler, Minneapolis Star Tribune

Based on the William Goldman novel, this tale of love and adventure features the beautiful Buttercup (Robin Wright) and her one true love, Wesley (Cary Elwes). Set in the mythical kingdom of Florin, the separated lovers face piracy, kidnapping, swordsmen, a giant, the evil Prince Humperdink (Chris Sarandon), and some unusually large rodents in their quest to be reunited. The Princess Bride features classic performances from Andre the Giant, Billy Crystal, Peter Falk, Christopher Guest, Carol Kane, Mandy Patinkin, Fred Savage, and Wallace Shawn.

The “My Favorite Films” series features tales of romance, humor, suspense, satire, and heroism with films since 1945. These films may hold special memories for you—no matter how many times you see them, they continue to draw you in once more. While many of these films are available through streaming, it's always more fun to see them in the theatre.

In July, Cowtown Movie Classics (CMC) teams up with My Favorite Films for a high flying, steel clashing celebration of cinema’s greatest sword fights. Join host Ryan Bijan for four action packed films where acrobatics, artistry, and iconic blade to blade battles take center stage.

Make a day of it at the Modern and include extra time to visit the galleries. Enjoy lunch in Café Modern and then settle in for an afternoon screening, or plan for a coffee break afterwards with fellow film enthusiasts.

Screenings are at 2 pm most Wednesdays in the auditorium. Tickets are $5 (FREE for Modern members) and are available at the Museum’s admission desk or online here.
