Alarmed by the rate at which young Black men around her are dying, brash Oakland, California art student Pica (Toby Smith) attempts to preserve their existence in Polaroid snapshots. Along the way, she forges a friendship with a woman in an abusive relationship (April Barnett), experiencing love, heartbreak, and the everyday threat of violence. Capturing the vibrant community spirit of Oakland in the 1990s, Smith crafts both a rare cinematic celebration of Black female creativity and a moving elegy for a generation of lost African American men.
The Fort Worth Film Club was founded in 2022 after the closing of Fort Worth’s lone art house theater: the Grand Berry Theater. Continuing what the Grand Berry started, the newly branded Fort Worth Film Club's goal is to build a community in Fort Worth around a shared love of film. The Fort Worth Film Club hosts free monthly screenings aiming for films with cultural and local importance. These screenings are open to the public and are followed by a moderated discussion.
