In The Making: The Sculpture Project
The Modern invites everyone to participate in In the Making: The Sculpture Project, a series of art-making activities for all ages and skill levels, in partnership with artists Trey Burns and Tamara Johnson of Sweet Pass Sculpture Park. Visitors can experiment with materials, explore ideas, and construct their own sculptures with guidance from the Modern’s education team.
During the month of October, we welcome visitors with FREE admission for all.
From September 29 to October 30, 2026, the Modern will be open regular operating hours, but the exhibition galleries will be closed for the full museum installation of the upcoming historic collection exhibition, In the Making: Stories from the Collection.
Films, performances, and auditorium programs will be presented in October. The Modern Shop and Cafe Modern are open.
The Lobby, the Museum’s main entrance, transforms into a public studio space for hands-on artmaking throughout October. Our staff is ready to welcome visitors, answer questions, and suggest activities.
What’s Happening & How to Make the Most of Your Visit
- Explore the Modern Kiosk for Printed Matter, including fun ideas about sculpture and the Modern’s collection, art swag, and coloring pages
- Build and construct at Sculpture Stacks, a collaborative artmaking station
- Create your very own metal and embossed leaf, transforming the pond and landscape near Conjoined, 2007, by Roxy Paine
- Enjoy Rest and Read Areas: Explore books on sculpture for kids and adults
- Ask Questions: Speak with our staff, docents, and volunteers to learn about the Modern’s sculptures and the artists that created them.
- Attend a film or performance in the Modern’s auditorium, up-to-date schedules at themodern.org
- Shop unique finds and art-inspired gifts at The Modern Shop
- Enjoy lunch, coffee, and cocktails at Café Modern
- Meet up for free coffee from 1-4 pm every Saturday and Sunday in October

Beginning October 2026
Ahead of the 25th Anniversary of Tadao Ando’s building in December 2027, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth announces In the Making, an exhibition and series of programs beginning in Fall 2026. This overarching initiative offers a moment to reflect and look ahead. Fort Worth has grown remarkably over the past quarter-century; the Modern is well-positioned to ask how it can continue to grow alongside this dynamic city and best serve the surrounding community. In the Making will shape the Modern’s exhibition, programming, and engagement in the year ahead. This is a time for us all to reflect, ask questions, and imagine what the museum can become.
