The Modern maintains one of the foremost collections of modern and contemporary international art in the central United States. Various movements and styles are represented in the first-floor galleries, including Abstract Expressionism, Pop art, and Minimalism, as well as distinct themes such as masculinity and architecture. New acquisitions by Jeffrey Gibson, Gabriel Orozco, Howardena Pindell, and Dyani White Hawk are in conversation with permanent collection favorites.
Now on view in the second-floor galleries, visitors can enjoy a selection of works from the Modern’s collection. The exhibited artworks highlight the Museum’s contemporary collections, featuring a range of artists working in media from painting and drawing to photography, video, and sculpture. Beginning at the top of the stairs with Clyfford Still's Abstract Expressionist painting, the first gallery showcases forays into abstraction with artworks by Kamrooz Aram, Jamal Cyrus, Richard Diebenkorn, and Donald Sultan. Following galleries feature large figurative paintings by Alex Katz and Philip Pearlstein and works from some of Fort Worth's most acclaimed artists like Vernon Fisher and Linda Blackburn. The second-floor gallery spaces conclude with an exploration between abstract and naturalist works of Nancy Graves and Susan Rothenberg followed by paintings and photographs offering a meditation on landscapes created by various artists including Mark Bradford, Vija Celmins, Andreas Gursky, Gerhard Richter, and Stanley Whitney.
