Film Schedule
THE BOY IN THE STRIPED PAJAMAS
“In adapting Irishman John Boyne’s acclaimed young-adult novel, writer-director Mark Herman (Little Voice) draws beautifully modulated performances from his two child actors, who navigate a full range of emotions from wonder to betrayal to guilt.” Chuck Wilson, The Village Voice. Set during World War II, the story is seen through the innocent eyes of the eight-year-old son of the commandant at a concentration camp, whose forbidden friendship with a Jewish boy on the other side of the camp fence has startling and unexpected consequences.
WALTZ WITH BASHIR
“The message of the futility of war has rarely been painted with such bold strokes.” Mary Corliss, Time. Belonging to a rare genre—animated documentary—Israeli director Ari Folman has added his voice to the maelstrom that has swarmed through Middle Eastern politics for decades in this provocative film which was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival and for a 2008 Golden Globe Award.
R for strong violence, brief nudity and a scene of graphic sexual content; 90 minutes; Hebrew with English subtitles
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN
“Stick your neck out for this Swedish horror show. It’s a winner, full of mirth and malice, plus a young romance you’ll never see on the Disney Channel.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone. Oscar, an overlooked and bullied boy, finds love and revenge through Eli, a beautiful but peculiar girl who turns out to be a vampire.
CHE: Part I
“A work of grand ambition. An experience you won’t forget. Benicio Del Toro gives a magnificent performance.” Peter Travers, Rolling Stone. “Steven Soderbergh’s Che is an unabashed historical epic . . . a superlatively crafted, dramatically compelling, emotionally distant account of Guevara’s participation in the Cuban Revolution of the 1950s and the disastrous Bolivian uprising a decade later.” J. Hoberman, The Village Voice. In Part I, Ernesto “Che” Guevara (Benicio Del Toro) and a band of Castro-led Cuban exiles mobilize an army to topple the regime of dictator Fulgencio Batista.
CHE: Part II
After helping overthrow the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista in Cuba, Guevara moved on to foment revolutions in Africa and South America.
