Forget your stodgy memories of high school Shakespeare class: In his visionary directorial debut, Ralph Fiennes (who also plays the title character) transforms the Bard’s tale of a doomed Roman general into a pulse-pounding, modern-day action thriller, complete with automatic weapons and riot gear.
Sounds like a downer, but in the deft hands of director Jonathan Levine and screenwriter Will Reiser, who based the story on personal experience, 50/50 proves spirited, ribald and tender—an outrageously funny comedy that quietly breaks your heart.
"A dazzling piece of filmmaking, and much of the dazzle-as well as the anguished darkness-comes from Adam Stone's cinematography, which expresses the swirling state of Curtis's mind with richly varied flavors of light." Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal. Plagued by a series of apocalyptic visions, a young husband and father questions whether to shelter his family from a coming storm, or from himself.

A powerful, harrowing and ultimately inspirational story of six months in 1961 that changed America forever. From May until November 1961, more than 400 black and white Americans risked their lives—and many endured savage beatings and imprisonment—for simply traveling together on buses and trains as they journeyed through the Deep South. Deliberately violating Jim Crow laws, the Freedom Riders met with bitter racism and mob violence along the way, sorely testing their belief in nonviolent activism.

This intimate film explores his life story and remarkable body of work with those who knew him best – his models, children, lovers, and friends. The film will premiere on Smithsonian Channel in July.

Before The Devil Wears Prada, before Anna Wintour, there was Diana Vreeland. She was known as the "Empress of Fashion" and reigned over Harper's Bazaar andVogue for much of the 20th century, influencing everyone from Jackie Kennedy Onassis to Lauren Bacall. Interviewees include Givenchy, Oscar de la Renta and Manolo Blahnik, but it is the archival footage and the reenactments of the woman herself that offer a glimpse of her "pizzazz." Co-directed by her granddaughter-in-law, the film is stylish, breezy yet informative and at times poignant.

Co-directed by her granddaughter-in-law, the film is stylish, breezy yet informative and at times poignant.

“How did Mr. Panahi do this? I'm at a bit of a loss to explain, to tell you the truth, since my job is to review movies, and this, obviously, is something different: a masterpiece in a form that does not yet exist.” A. O. Scott, The New York Times. Iranian director Jafar Panahi was put under house arrest in 2010 and banned from filmmaking for 20 years. This film was smuggled out of Iran on a USB stick hidden in a cake. By depicting a day in his life, Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb try to portray the deprivations looming in contemporary Iranian cinema.

"What makes Hunter a hauntingly memorable film-and a bit of a mystery-is how it infuses with grace all the familiar, hyper-realistic aspects of contemporary provincial Russian life without removing any of its harshness.
